European Researchers' Night 2008

Building on its wide experience with the event in Turkey last two years, 2006 and 2007, EBILTEM has modified the content of the Turkish European Researchers’ Night Activities this year. The theme of the activity will be “Science Throughout Centuries”. In this context, participants will pass through a “Time Machine” and experience the researchers and their inventions throughout different time periods in history and in the future.
There will be different shows and competitions, talks, demonstrations and hands-on experiments to be realized by researchers with public participation. Demos and hands-on experiments will involve different discoveries, starting with fire and the wheel and continuing with money, the press, the industrial revolution, will be followed with the advancement in telecommunications. Researchers present will communicate about their lives and personal details in relation with the theory behind the discoveries. It is expected that the participants leave the Night with the understanding and conviction that science is not something far-away and unreachable, on the contrary it is everywhere in our every day lives.
The European Researchers’ Night will take place on 26 September 2008 in Izmir and Istanbul. The event will be broadcast live on the project web-site.
