The Third International Food Data Base Conference will be hosted by the Food and Agriculture Organisation in Rome on 5-7 July 1999.

The conference will bring together scientists, international experts, government workers and food industry professionals who work in the area of food composition to discuss current issues and future directions in generating, disseminating and using food composition data.

The event is being organised jointly by the European Cooperation and Research Action on Food Consumption and Composition Data (COST 99 Action EUROFOODS) and the International Union of Nutritional Sciences/United Nation University (IUNS/UNU).

Following the conference, a special one-day COST Action 99 (EUROFOODS) meeting will be organised on 8 July 1999. Currently four workshops are planned on:

- Food intake at the individual level:
- Household budget surveys;
- Trans fatty acid data in food composition tables;
- Polyphenols in food composition tables.

This event is open to all conference participants.

COST (European Cooperation in the field of Scientific and Technical Research) is a framework for scientific and technical cooperation, allowing the coordination of national research on a European level. COST Actions consist of basic and precompetitive research as well as activities of public utility.

There are 25 COST member countries: the fifteen EU Member States plus Iceland, Norway, Switzerland, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Poland, Turkey, Slovenia and Croatia.
