The European Commission, Directorate General V, is organising a conference in Luxembourg on 5 to 8 July 1999 to mark the expiry of the treaty establishing the European Coal and Steel Community (ECSC). The results from the ECSC's social research programmes, undertaken over the last five years, will be presented. The topics under discussion will include ergonomics, industrial medicine, pollution in the steel industry, and health and safety in coal mining.

Companies and research centres which took part in the ECSC research programme will have the opportunity to present and exhibit their results, equipment, systems, software, and measuring instruments at the conference.
