Project Management with Microsoft EXCEL

Forschungszentrum Karlsruhe's training centre (FTU) offers a training course "Microsoft EXCEL – A Tremendous Tool for Project Management" in Brussels on 8 - 9 June 2009.

8 June 2009 - 9 June 2009
North Macedonia
Project partners or newcomers in international cooperations often lack the latest project management software. Different partners own different software systems. Interface problems occur and cause time delays and unforeseen additional costs.

The approach of this course is to apply Microsoft EXCEL as a tool for project management as almost every institution and company use this calculation tool. Some simple techniques combined with creative considerations can turn this software into a strong project management tool to be used by everybody. It enables all consortium partners to use transparent, accessible-to-all, easy-to-exchange tools to manage their projects.

This course is a demanding and intense two-day workshop combining simple EXCEL techniques and surprisingly clever and useful tricks. The emphasis is on developing basic applications into management tools, easy to learn and quick to adapt for the daily work. The focus is on individual and group work, discussions and case studies. Participants will learn how to use EXCEL in a new environment and will be encouraged to transfer these techniques to support the efficient management of projects.

The following topics will be covered:
• Project planning
• Evaluating conflicting targets
• Capacity planning
• Automated work package breakdown structure
• Project organiser
• Manpower and cost tables
• Project team, communication
• Stakeholder analysis, schedule planning
• Monitoring and control tools (milestone trend analysis)
• Risk management and risk maps
• Automated SWOT-analysis
• Project review techniques
• Checklists and templates.

The course is specifically designed for project managers, program managers, team leaders, project professionals and project staff involved in (international) projects. It is limited to 12 participants in order to ensure a high quality standard.

Participants are asked to bring their own portable PC to the course in order to fully benefit. The English version of Microsoft Excel (2000 - 2003) should be installed.
