Open Source Software for Embedded Systems: the great challenge. First International Event SHARE project

Open source software adoption in the embedded systems domain is gaining growing interest within the European industrial and academic communities. It represents the key towardflexibility, cooperation, cost reduction due to the lots of ready to use components, and increased competitive advantage for industries in this field. However OSS decentralized and distributed development model makes quality assessment hard to achieve, thus complicating evaluation and making OSS integration within complex industrial-strength applications a risk. This workshop aims to bring together researchers and industrialists from different fields, to provide a stimulating, and fruitful forum to foster collaboration, to discuss ideas, and to propose the actions for the next future. Experiences gained in the SHARE and the INIZIATIVA SOFTWARE projects will be presented, in terms of achieved results, ongoing activities and future work.
