The EU-funded NEOBRAIN project (Neonatal Estimation Of Brain Damage Risk And Identification of Neuroprotectants) will hold a satellite conference on brain damage risk and neuroprotectants for preterm newborns in Hamburg on 8 October 2009 prior to the 2009 European Society for Paediatric Research (ESPR) meeting.
The brain is particularly vulnerable in preterm infants. Damage during this time of brain development can subsequently lead to motor deficits, cognitive limitations, attention deficits, learning difficulties and even severe disabilities. Within the NEOBRAIN project, researchers, clinicians and SMEs from across Europe collaborate in order to identify strategies to diagnose and to protect the newborn brain against such injury.
The NEOBRAIN conference in October 2009 will present state-of-the-art results from the project and related areas of research. All interested participants are welcome to attend the conference, especially those involved in the diagnosis, healthcare management and neuroprotection of newborns with perinatal brain damage.
