European Conference : New Milestones for Inquiry-based Science Education in Europe

The incoming conference NEW MILESTONES FOR INQUIRY BASED SCIENCE EDUCATION IN EUROPE, that will be held in Berlin - GERMANY next Friday, May 29, 2009 at the Berlin-Brandeburg Academy of sciences.
Over the last years, special efforts have been made by a number of European institutions in the fields of science, research and education to develop inquiry-based science education (IBSE) in primary school through joint collaborations.
As a follow up to several European conferences on science education (Amsterdam 2004, Stockholm 2006, Grenoble 2008), this conference intends to contribute to the international agenda on science education in primary school. It will provide a platform for discussion about a variety of outstanding contributions, reflecting the diversity of innovative science education projects, with the aim of setting a milestone towards the generalisation of such an approach in Europe.
Co-organised by the Freie Universität Berlin, the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences and Humanities and the Pollen FP6 EU project, this conference will focus on 4 major issues around IBSE in primary schools in Europe:
• inquiry-based science education as a key
approach
• community participation and support for
dissemination
• involvement of the scientific community
• science and cross-disciplinary teaching.
The conference programme includes key speakers, 4 panels, video presentations, exhibition stands and poster sessions.
Around 200 participants from across Europe are expected, including members of the scientific community, policy makers on science education and teacher trainers.
