Seminar to celebrate International Year of Astronomy in Brussels
To mark this special global initiative, the South African Department of Science and Technology in partnership with Universe Awareness for Young Children (http://www.unawe.org(opens in new window)) will be orgabnising an IYA2009 seminar, to be held in Brussels on Thursday 24 September 2009. The specific theme for the event will be that of Southern African – European Partnerships in Astronomy and their role as engines for scientific excellence and discovery as well as sustainable development and education.
Speakers will include office-bearers of the International Astronomical Union and the Universe Awareness for Young Children initiative. Several Southern African astronomers will also be in attendance to present the region’s rich portfolio of optic, radio and gamma-ray astronomy activities.The event will take place at the South African Mission to the European Union in Brussels, Rue Montoyer 17-19, Brussels, 1000 (Metro: Trone.) Proceedings will commence at 09:00 and conclude at 13:00 with a networking lunch.
