EU-China Managers Exchange and Training Programme (METP) - Brussels, 27 October 2009

Turning Challenges into Opportunities for EU Companies in China

27 October 2009
Austria
Trade and investment ties with the EU’s fastest growing global partner – China – have turned out to be increasingly important in these times of economic turmoil. However, many European companies, especially small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), often lack the resources to establish business relations with China.

To respond to these challenges and offer new opportunities for SMEs, Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) and self-employed entrepreneurs, the European Commission and the Government of China have decided to extend the EU-China Managers Exchange and Training Programme (METP) by a further intake in 2010.

Worth 23 million Euro funding, the multi-annual programme (2006-2011) is the major EU-China business training scheme. It is designed to promote links among managers from both sides by focusing on intercultural training and building mutual confidence, which is the cornerstone for reaping the economic gains from global trade.

You are cordially invited to take part in a round table discussion on the challenges and opportunities for doing business with China and the role of the METP, which will take place on 27 October 2009 from 10:30 to 11:30 at Résidence Palace, Rue de la Loi 155, Brussels.

Dr Stefan Hell, METP team leader in Beijing is travelling from China to give an update on the programme and the opportunities for 2010.

He will be joined by EU policy makers, business associations and former METP participants:

Mr Franz Jessen, Head of Unit: China, DG External Relations, European Commission;

Mr Luc Hendrickx, UEAPME, Director for Competitiveness and External Relations;

Mr Frédéric Poncin, former METP participant 2008/09;

Mr Philippe Le Corre, EU-China expert, Publicis Consultants, will moderate the debate.

The discussion will be followed by refreshments.Registration before 23 October by e-mail to Linda.Barry@publicis-consultants.be
