The International conference on Biopolymer Technology (ICBT) will take place in Coimbra Portugal on 28 to 30 September 1999 and the main objective with this conference is to build and maintain an active communication network of leading European scientists.

Biodegradable polymers from renewable resources have, according to the organisers of this conference, gained an increasing interest from industry as well as research groups during the last few years. Since the field of biodegradable polymers is very broad and the scientists can vary from microbiologist to process engineers, this conference aim to bring together scientists and engineers working in the field of biopolymer technology.

The research of the ICBT - network focuses on four different topics:

- Technology and Engineering;
- Water and secondary structures;
- (Bio) Synthesis and modification;
- Testing protocols.

The International conference on Biopolymer Technology is organised by the International Centre for Biopolymer Technology, which is a FAIR project supported by the European Commission's DG XII.
