The Governing Council of the European Nuclear Physics Network will discuss a first list of projects that might be launched and financed in common

On Friday, January 15th, representatives from the European Commission, from NuPECC and from 18 national agencies funding Nuclear Physics in Europe will attend the second meeting of the Governing Council of NuPNET, the ERA-NET in Nuclear Physics Infrastructures and discuss a first "list of transnational opportunities", which should pave the way to a joint funding of future Nuclear Physics actions.

15 Enero 2010
Austria
This second meeting of the NuPNET Governing Council will take place at the Hungarian Office for Research and Technology (NKTH), who is not only one of the 18 member institutions of NuPNET, but also a key player in developing and implementing Hungary's science, technology and innovation policies and in financially supporting the R&D activities.

The ERA-Net NuPNET is a European initiative in the field of Nuclear Physics. NuPNET thus stands for Nuclear Physics Network. With a budget of €1.3 million granted by the European Commission under the Seventh Framework Programme (FP7) and over a period of three years (2008-2011), NuPNET started its activities on 1 March 2008 with a quite ambitious aim: Provide Europe with a more coherent funding of Nuclear Physics infrastructures and equipments.

Fourteen European countries are the founding members of NuPNET: Belgium, Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Italy, the Netherlands, Poland, Romania, Spain and the United Kingdom. They are represented by eighteen institutions from national ministries and research.

NuPECC, the Nuclear Physics European Collaboration Committee at the ESF, is an associated member of NuPNET and acts as its Scientific Advisory Body.

Since the start of the project on 1 March 2008, representatives at the Governing Council of the ERA-Net NuPNET meet for the second time. This Governing Council meeting is co-organised by the Hungarian Office for Research and Technology (NKTH), the nuclear physics oriented research institute of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences (ATOMKI) and the French Institute of Nuclear and Particle Physics of the National Centre for Scientific Research (CNRS/IN2P3), who is also the Co-ordinator of this European project.

Two important topics are on the agenda of the Governing Council: the publication of the finalised census of the existing funding systems in Nuclear Physics and the discussion of the first list of opportunities, which will directly lead the way to the launching of joint actions.

All 18 NuPNET member institutions will be represented. The Deputy Head for Research Infrastructures at the Research-Directorate General of the EU Commission (D. Pasini) will also attend, as will the Chairman (G. Rosner) and the Scientific Secretary (S. Körner) of NuPECC.
