Lyon stages Multimediaville

The fifteenth Multimediaville Convention & Exhibition, organised by the French Major Cities Association, will be held in Lyon between 23 and 25 June 1999.
The three main themes are:
- Local economic development through new multimedia and Internet technologies. How information technologies and telecommunication/cable equipment could be the main engine to promote businesses and sources of employment;
- Local authorities - telecommunications, cable networks and digitalisation of information sources. What cost-effective solutions are at the disposal of local/regional decision-makers?
- Towards "European cyber-educational" cities designed to satisfy their citizens' demands in meeting the costs of shared equipment.
18 fora and five or six round tables will explore these themes. Participants will come from European Internet, cable, telecommunication and satellite operators, and radio and TV broadcasters, and will include elected representatives and civil servants from European cities.
The event will feature "a Main Street" or a "European village" where everyone can initiate productive partnerships to develop new European-level business opportunities.
