Representatives from European industry will meet those from 20 African countries in Harare, Zimbabwe, between 29 and 31 March 1999, to discuss development of the market for renewable energy sources in Africa.

The "Business and Investment Forum for Renewable Energies in Africa" is being organised by Agence de l'Environnement et de la Maîtrise de l'Énergie (ADEME) in association with European partners and multilateral partners (UNESCO) within the framework of the EC's THERMIE B programme run by DG XVII. The forum will be followed by technical visits on 1 and 2 April.

One of the main goals of the event is to promote investment and financing opportunities for projects using efficient renewable energy technologies for sustainable development in Africa. The event will include round table discussions, plenary meetings and an opportunity for representatives from European and African industry to make firm contacts with each other.

The forum is specifically targeted at decision-makers and policy-makers, local authorities, investors and international cooperation agencies, industrialists, institutional representatives and programme managers working in the field of renewable energies.
