Finding research partners to work with in digital cities projects could be made easier by visiting the "Telecities seminar", in The Hague, The Netherlands, on 15 and 16 March 1999.

Based on lessons learnt from the European Commission's Fourth Framework Programme, the event should result in opportunities to set up innovative and successful partnerships for European projects - particularly for the Fifth Framework Programme.

It will be the first seminar of 1999 in the European Digital Cities (EDC) project, which is a support action of the EC telematics applications programme. The seminar will focus on public and private partnership in research, technological development and demonstration (RTD) activities and pilot projects. It will address the following issues:

- Local public procurement constraints or EC RTD projects and for an effective exploitation of results at the local level;
- Definition of the roles of the main players in RTD projects;
- Development of generic products versus local services;
- How to establish trust and confidence between the different parties;
- Identification of business cases (for the private sector);
- Role of global companies and local small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).

There will also be parallel sessions focusing on education and training, health and social care, public administration and services to SMEs.
