Barriers to Internationalisation and Growth of EU’s Innovative Companies

On the 28th of September 2010, a consortium led by WIFO in partnership with the European Commission will organise a one-day workshop on “Barriers to Internationalisation and Growth of EU’s Innovative Companies” in Brussels. The aim of the workshop is to validate the findings of a related “Innovation Intelligence Study” with interested stakeholders and experts.

The principal objective of this Innovation Intelligence Study is to develop a framework for innovation and internationalisation policies across EU Member States and make specific recommendations to address the actual challenges and opportunities for the internationalisation of innovative firms in Europe.

The main research questions highlighted and debated at the event will be:

-What are the main barriers to innovation of European SMEs?
-What are the main barriers to internationalisation of these companies?
-What is the relationship between internationalisation and innovation?
-How do innovation and internationalisation interact in affecting firm growth?
-How do the drivers of innovation and internationalisation differ across countries and industries in the European Union?

The morning session will be open to registered participants. The afternoon session will be reserved to invited experts only. This event is the first of a series of six workshops covering different innovation challenges. It is organised in the framework of the EC INNO-Grips project. INNO-Grips is supporting policy makers in adopting appropriate policy responses to emerging innovation needs, trends and phenomena. It analyses framework conditions, barriers and drivers to innovation and innovation policy and offers intelligence on international developments in these field.
