Conference Project PITER ' Reached Its Aims' held in Brussels - Belgium
This project was implemented by 2 regional authorities (Rhône-Alpes and Piedmont), 2 clusters (Tenerrdis and Environment Park) and one project management consulting firm (Alma Consulting Group). Its main purpose is both to support the reduction of CO2 emissions and to foster the development of regional economies through Renewable Energies R&D.
A strong key starting point for the project has been the geographical proximity of Rhone-Alps and Piedmont regions. They share common historical and cultural roots, and beyond of that a strong similar industrial experiences. Nevertheless, most of their economical, institutional and scientific exchanges occurring on their territory are very occasional and based on “one to one” interactions.
It was perceived as necessary to establish a common trans-regional strategy to target reduction CO2 emissions, defining common aims and sharing resources, to enhance the capacities of these territories to compete at an European and international level.
In order to meet the goals of a sustainable and durable development , through research and technological innovation, the two clusters have enhanced, during the course of the two past years, the cooperation between them, through the exchange of best practices, benchmarking and mapping activities.
As for the two Regions, they have agreed to implement a common strategy, as defined in a Joint Action Plan.
The results of the project have been insofar the development of a series of exchanges between universities, R&D centres and companies of the two regions in the matter of innovation linked to the energy sector. Some interesting topics (mainly small hydropower, energy efficiency in buildings, integrated solar in buildings, hydrogen and fuel cells, smart grids...) have been selected, and a concrete collaboration between stakeholders has already begun.
Between the regions, the Joint Action Plan has defined the actions to be carried out for the development of a more integrated transregional environment for the R&D in the energy sector.
