'Nutrition Research Highlights' newsletter by JRC-IHCP

This newsletter features recent nutrition research highlights with relevance to current societal debates or policies.

10 Decembre 2010

The way we eat, drink or move has a tremendous impact on our health status, so eating and drinking are moments of our daily life where our choices can make a real difference. Because of this, we are sensitive to headlines on food and nutrition in the news, internet, books etc. But is this information always correct and based on current scientific consensus?

If you ever wanted to loose weight, haven't you come across the suggestion to eat low-fat products and then heard that you should eat protein-rich foods in another? Milk and cheese are "healthy products" rich in calcium, vitamins and proteins. However, they contain too much saturated fat and salt, should you avoid them?

These and other controversies that surround nutritional issues emphasize the need for reliable and comprehensive information on the topic. The essence of the new JRC-IHCP Newsletter is to deliver such information to EU policy makers, colleagues and consumers. We regularly survey the top nutrition and medical journals to select the most recent news on nutrition research that is relevant to current societal debates or policies. These are summarised as "News" items or presented as "Views" comprising an analysis and expert opinion.
