Pre-conference Event on STI for the LDCs in Istanbul - Turkey

The 4th United Nations Conference on the Least Developed Countries (LDCs) will take place in Istanbul, Turkey, in 9-13 May 2011. The Conference is providing a unique opportunity to focus on the challenges faced by the LDCs as well as to map out a new vision for enhanced cooperation with LDCs.
Science, technology, and innovation (STI) play a vital role in economic growth and development. Therefore, we believe that STI needs to be one of the main topics of discussion of the 4th Conference and its preparatory process. The LDCs and their development partners should elaborate on challenges and opportunities for technology transfer, capacity building and research and innovation with a view to catalyzing sustainable development of the LDCs. In this respect, sharing experiences and best practices on STI policies and practices is of central importance.
In this context, The Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TUBITAK), in cooperation with UNIDO, will organize a pre-conference event on Science, Technology and Innovation: Setting Priorities, Shaping and Implementing Policies for LDCs on 7-8 February 2011 in Istanbul, Turkey.
