The shaping of the cities of the twenty-first century will be discussed during a conference, "Rebuild - the Cities of Tomorrow", which will be held in Barcelona, Spain, between 4 and 6 October 1999.

Major topics include:

- Urban energy planning;
- Protection of cultural heritage in building restoration and construction;
- Sustainable mobility;
- Integration of renewable energies in urban planning.

Focus will also be on economic, clean, effective and sustainable recovery, renovation and construction, in particular of the cultural heritage, as targeted in the European Commission's Key Action "The City of Tomorrow and Cultural Heritage" under the Fifth Framework Programme.
