Call for Participants launched for a 'Sandpit' on Obesity and Diabetes to participate in a collaborative Europe-New Zealand trans-disciplinary workshop (‘Sandpit’) to be held in Rotorua, New Zealand

FRENZ (the New Zealand bilateral FP7 project, and NCP for FP7), in conjunction with the Health Research Council of New Zealand (HRC), has launched a call for expressions of interest for researchers to participate in a collaborative Europe-New Zealand trans-disciplinary workshop (‘Sandpit’) to be held in Rotorua, New Zealand, from 5-8 July 2011.

5 July 2011 - 8 July 2011
Austria

The aim of the Sandpit is to identify and develop paradigm-shifting, innovative ways to address the growing public health challenge presented by diabetes and obesity.

Research approaches and themes identified during the Sandpit process may be subsequently submitted for funding to a mechanism such as HRC’s annual funding round and the European Commission’s Seventh Framework Programme for Research and Technological Development (FP7) Cooperation Work Programme (Health). Additionally, HRC seeks to offer mobility funding to New Zealand based researchers to continue to develop research collaborations post-Sandpit.

The Sandpit is expected to involve up to 16 researchers from Europe and New Zealand. Outputs will be fed into the relevant policy making processes with a view toward establishing closer Europe-New Zealand research relationships in this field in the future.

Further information is available at http://www.frenz.org.nz/Sandpits/Sandpit2DiabetesandObesity.aspx(opens in new window).
The closing date for expressions of Interest is 9 May 2011.
