Results from the EURIPIDES Forum ' Meet your Challenges' in Helsinki, Finland
The Forum’s slogan was ‘Meet your challenges’. “Looking at the growing participation and the enthusiasm for building up new projects, we believe that the Forum has met the expectations of all participants. We can expect a large number of proposals for our next call. There is no doubt; Helsinki will be a very important milestone for the EURIPIDES community: the Finns did it!” said Jean-Luc Maté, EURIPIDES Chairman.
Jussi Tuovinen, chairman of the organising committee added: “The Helsinki Forum was a real success from many perspectives: a record number of attendants, 150 participants from 17 countries, as well as 23 expressions of interest in project development, and a high-level debate. The new formula ’A Week of Smart Systems‘ including several complementing events and technical visits proved to be successful. For the first time, we also appreciated the important contribution of Russia and a very strong participation from the EPoSS community”.
Prior to the Forum, three parallel workshops were organized with the ‘COWIN marketplace’ as a red thread. The COWIN initiative’s mission is to facilitate the take-up of advanced technologies, in order to capture innovation, win new markets and facilitate profits and investments in the technological area of miniaturised smart systems.
One of the workshops was organised by EPoSS, the EU’s European Technology Platform on Smart System Integration. The topic of the workshop was the development of project ideas for future EUREKA or EU calls and other funding opportunities. This Eemeli Workshop, supported by the Finnish innovation funding agency TEKES, gathered 20 SMEs looking for smart systems technologies and the EASY ACCESS event promoted the use of microsystems, and looked into bridging the innovation gap from “lab-to-fab”.
Bridging the gap to the market was also the leitmotiv of COWIN, which organised B-to-B meetings. Around 50 matchmaking meetings were prearranged promoting “golden nuggets” technologies. The COWIN market place generated additional opportunities for all participants in an excellent atmosphere.
Heinz Moitzi, CTO of AT&S commented: “We are very proud to organize, on behalf of the Euripides Cluster, the 2012 edition of the EURIPIDES Forum in Austria. Graz is not only the capital city of the “Green Marches” but Austria’s second largest city has also gained a reputation as a magnet for business and medical, automotive as well as industrial clusters”. ‘European competitiveness networks’ will be the core topic of the 2012 Smart Systems Week in Graz.
