The International Life Science Institute - ILSI Europe is organising the 2nd International Symposium on Food Packaging, ensuring the Safety and Quality of Foods, in Vienna between 8 and 10 November 2000.

With the collaboration of the European Commission, the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC) and the Institute of Food Chemistry and Food Technology, Vienna University of Technology, this symposium will:

- Look at the advances being made in the underlying science relating to the safety and quality of packaged foods;
- Disseminate results of on-going research;
- Stimulate debate, while examining the implications for the future.

The multi-disciplinary meeting will be of interest to food scientists, chemists, mathematicians, physicists, and microbiologists from industry, academia and government involved in developing packaging systems and ensuring the safety and quality of packaged foods. It will bring together those involved in basic studies, those responsible for bringing developments to the market place, and those charged with ensuring the safety and quality of the end-product.

Researchers are welcome to submit abstracts of investigations for consideration as supplementary oral or poster presentations. Contributed papers should cover work undertaken to ensure the quality and safety of packaged foods. The work should show an understanding of the physical chemistry, analytical aspects, microbiology and sensory considerations.
