The Statistical Office of the European Communities (EUROSTAT) in cooperation with Strategic Mapping Incorporated (SMI) announce the launch of a new software package presenting Europe-wide statistical data in a map based format suitable for personal computer use (IBM or compatible PC and Apple Macintosh). One-hour demonstrations of the new product will take place in the Jean Monnet building, Luxembourg, on 26-27 January 1993.

SMI's Atlas Software "Eurostat Edition" offers detailed geographic analysis and display of any area based on current EUROSTAT data. This includes full demographic and economic data for all Member States derived from the European Community database of regional demographic and economic statistics (REGIO) which contains statistical information on population, births, deaths, gross value added at market prices, gross value added at factor costs, GDP, and employment by sex, sector etc.

Community maps are also combined with the REGIO data, showing towns of over 20,000 inhabitants as well as major rivers and lakes. The Community is divided into sections according to the level and type of EC statistics applicable to the area.

Further REGIO data related to transport, industry, agriculture and other subjects as well as geographic files depicting major roads, motorways and metropolitan areas will be available from EUROSTAT and SMI as optional data files in the future.
