The VALUE Relay Centres (VRCs) Optional Training Day plus Launch Meeting will take place at the Jean Monnet building in Luxembourg on 1-3 February 1993. This first meeting will involve staff from the twenty-seven Relay Centres located throughout the European Community, and preceeds the public launching of the VRCs, which will take place in the near future.

The agenda for the three-day event, which includes an optional initial day of training for those attending the launch meeting of 2-3 February, is as follows:

Monday 1 February (Optional training day). Here the aim is to provide the recently established VRCs with basic know how on the Community RTD programmes and on available sources of information. Topics will cover:

- Welcoming address;
- The Framework Programme (history, Maastricht, extension, the Fourth Framework Programme, the tasks of a VRC);
- Daily business in a VRC (logistics, organization, gathering and processing and spreading information);
- CORDIS Information Services;
- How to find information on tenders on the TED database?;
- On-site demonstration of online access to CORDIS and of CD-ROM access to CORDIS.

Morning and afternoon breaks will provide an opportunity for informal communication, as will the 12:45 lunch. The day will end with an hour of question time.

Tuesday 2 February: (First day of the VALUE Relay launch meeting). A range of speakers will present the aims and objectives of the Relay Service Network, the VALUE programme, and key related subjects.

- Welcoming address;
- General presentation of the VALUE Relay Service Network and its objectives;
- Presentation of each VRC on their own behalf;
- Presentation of the VRC Coordination Unit;
- The VALUE programme (general overview, CORDIS, the Publications Unit, direct assistance for exploitation, specific action for SMEs);
- Upstream and downstream activities;
- The role of the VRCs and of the Coordination Unit in the network;
- Information flow from Coordination Unit to VCRs (information on RTD programmes, RTD results, and other information);
- Information flow from VRCs to the Coordination Unit (requests for information, information on outstanding tasks, access to CORDIS, summary of outstanding VCR's situation based on answers to the questionnaire, feedback on activities).

Morning and afternoon breaks, lunch and the VCR's dinner, will again enable participants to establish closer liaisons.

Wednesday 3 February: (VALUE Relay Launch, final day). Speakers will deal with promotion, training, specific actions, and a number of other subjects completing the information covered by this important VALUE 2 event:

- List of Community experts;
- Promotion of the VRC's services;
- Events;
- Promotional material (logos, labels, etc.);
- Contracts (funding, reports, detailed operational plans, etc.);
- Specific programmes;
- The BRITE programme (Basic Research in Industrial Technologies for Europe);
- The CRAFT programme (Cooperative Research Action for Technology);
- Specific actions proposed to the VRC's.

The Launch Meeting will terminate with a gathering of VRCs and VALUE 2 Committee Members on an informal basis.
