Roundtable: “Neurodegenerative diseases: from bench to bedside. Institutional strategies and role of the private sector in the transfer of knowledge ”
The roundtable is meant to stimulate discussions on research, economic and social challenges to fight neurodegenerative diseases:
• how to deliver new competitive research tools to reinvigorate drug development process for the benefits of the patients and improving the EU pharma industries competitiveness;
• how to improve robustness of pre-clinical data or add features to clinical trials;
• which steps are needed downstream of promising animal models, assays and emerging technologies for future medical treatments;
• how should existing health innovation governance frameworks adapt to facilitate the translation of new health innovations from bench to bedside;
• how to develop an aggressive and innovative agenda for accelerating research and drug development and which strategies and tools are needed to increase the engagement of the private sector.
The roundtable will represent the closing session of the DOPAMINET Summer School 2012 which will take place in Trieste on 19-20 July 2012 at SISSA. The Summer School will present the recent research advances in the field of Dopaminergic Neurons and functional genomics technologies for improving therapeutic approaches to Parkinson’s Diseases. The round table will extend the debate to other neurodegenerative pathologies, such as Alzheimer's disease. It will group together scientists, companies, and policy makers committed in shaping evidence-based policies on neurodegenerative diseases.
