World congress on railway research
The first WCRR was held in Paris in 1994, followed by others in Colorado Springs and Florence. All have been coordinated by an international group of senior railway managers and R&D executives from SNCF, BR, DB, FS, RTRI, AAR and UIC.
There will be specialist and poster sessions on a range of subjects from aerodynamics stimulation to noise distribution and electromagnetic compatibility. Numerous railway companies and other bodies have booked stands and exhibition centres, and a number of technical visits have been arranged.
Participants will also have an opportunity to experience Japanese railway developments, including visits to the test site of the high speed superconducting Maglev system in Yamanashi; the Shinkansen train depot; train operator system, and train maintenance works in Tokyo; the construction site of a new railway line in Yokohama; a wind tunnel facility in Maihara; and a station building in Kyoto.
