Meeting on ‘Promoting Global Responsible Research & Social and Scientific Innovation’ in Paris, France

From 20th to 22nd March 2013, UNESCO, as a member of the advisory body of the recently EU funded research project ProGReSS will host a high level expert meeting that will gather around 40 high level experts from different prestigious centers and institutes from various countries to discuss issues relating to responsible research and innovation.

20 March 2013 - 22 March 2013
Austria
Hosted at the UNESCO Headquarter in Paris, this event will also serve as kick off meeting of the project. ProGReSS - PROMOTING GLOBAL RESPONSIBLE RESEARCH & SOCIAL AND SCIENTIFIC INNOVATION- is a 36 months collaborative project funded by the European Commission under the 7th Framework Programme – Science in Society Theme, which aims at investigating an underexplored aspect of Responsible Research and Innovation (RRI): achieving societal acceptability.

Indeed, it is increasingly important to guide research and innovation towards outcomes that can improve human lives by tackling societal challenges. In support of Europe 2020 and the Capacities Work Programme 2012, this project promises to link existing international networks of RRI from all continents with European partners and policy-makers, policy-advisors, funders, industry and nongovernmental organisations (NGOs). Fostering interactive discussions with relevant societal actors as well as innovators, the project will thus move RRI concerns beyond a Europe-centred discussion to reach out to the global level, involving partners and advisors covering all major innovation regions (Europe, US, China, Japan, India, Australia and South Africa).

The first day of the meeting will be open to UNESCO government delegations. Project partners and guest speakers will address topics related to the societal challenges of research and innovation. The second day will be chiefly devoted to workshops around project activities, while the third day will concentrate on the global outreach and leverage sought by the project.
