Teaching teachers safer use of the Internet
The event follows the December 1998 adoption of the EU's action plan on promoting safer use of the Internet by combating illegal and harmful content on global networks, and will show teachers where to find up-to-date on-line information on the control of access to the Internet by pupils attending their schools. By being better informed about safer use of the Internet, teachers will also be in a better position to answer questions posed by parents.
Following an introduction to the EU's INFO2000 programme, and the role of the MIDAS-NET nodes, participants will obtain:
- Information on where to find a range of EU-compiled information on safer use of the Internet;
- A knowledge of developments related to the Internet Action Plan during 1999;
- Pointers to websites offering information on filtering and rating systems, and hotlines;
- Details of the wealth of links to sites covering survey reports and recommendations for actions by teachers and parents throughout the European Union and further afield.
