HEALTHY FUTURES is an EU Seventh Framework Programme (FP7)-funded project which aims to address the risk of outbreaks and transmission of three water-related vector-borne diseases (VBDs) in eastern Africa.

This issue of HEALTHY FUTURES Project News focuses on the project’s activities between February and July 2013. It includes an introduction to the Decision Support Tools (DSTs) the project is developing for the three target VBDs in eastern Africa and reports on recent HEALTHY FUTURES meetings and events, including: the joint symposium HEALTHY FUTURES held with the QWeCI (Quantifying Weather and Climate Impacts on Health in Developing Countries) project at the Fourth East African Community Health and Scientific Conference at the end of March 2013; and the fourth partners’ and third Expert Review Panel (ERP) meetings held at the Abdus Salam International Centre for Theoretical Physics (ICTP) campus in Trieste, Italy, from 29 April-1 May 2013. There is also a report from the Second Generic Skills and Networking Workshop held at the ICTP campus from 15-26 April 2013, which was attended by six early stage researchers from five of the HEALTHY FUTURES partner institutions.
