The 20th European Association of Remote Sensing Laboratories (EARSeL) symposium will celebrate a decade of trans-European remote sensing cooperation. Entitled 'Remote Sensing in the 21st century, the conference is scheduled from 14 to 16 June 2000 in Dresden, Germany, and will coincide with EARSeL's annual general assembly.

The symposium will be split into sessions for a number of disciplines and will provide an opportunity for researchers from Western and Eastern Europe to meet and discuss their research and possible collaborative work in future. The EARSeL Special Interest Groups are especially invited to organise extra information and official meetings.

The symposium topics will include:

- Land applications and environmental modelling;
- Water applications;
- Atmosphere and global change;
- Data calibration and data correction;
- New sensors on their way to operational use.

The symposium is chaired by Dr Vaughan, EARSeL's chairman, who is joined by a scientific committee of representatives from Dresden University of Technology, Berlin University of Technology, the European Commission's Joint Research Centre, the University of Basel and L'Ecole des Mines de Paris, France.
