What contributions can the Social Sciences and Humanities make towards a more competitive Europe? What models should we follow to guide present and future generations along a sustainable path? What are the opportunities for SSH funding in Horizon 2020, the new EU Framework Programme for Research and Innovation?

These are some of the issues that will be addressed during “Achieving Impact: Socio-economic Sciences and Humanities in Horizon 2020” - the international conference and brokerage event for the Social Sciences and Humanities (SSH) community in Research, Development & Innovation that will take place in Athens, Greece on 26th & 27th February 2014.

“Achieving Impact” is an event co-organized by NET4SOCIETY (the Network of Socio-economic Sciences and Humanities National Contact Points) through the support of the European Commission.

During the first day, you will be able to explore the concept of Impact through practical workshops and panel discussions geared to encourage SSH researchers to become involved in the Societal Challenges in Horizon 2020.

On the second day you will learn in more detail about the opportunities presented by the Work Programme of the first and second calls for Societal Challenge 6 of Horizon 2020 “Europe in a changing world: inclusive, innovative and reflective societies”. You will also hear about SSH opportunities in other elements of Horizon 2020. In addition, the importance of impact in Horizon 2020 research proposals will be emphasised.

There will then be three parallel sessions on specific elements of the Horizon 2020 Work Programme for Societal Challenge 6 including presentations from the Commission, project coordinators and evaluators.

The Brokerage event itself will give you the opportunity to have pre-arranged meetings with other participants to identify possible collaborators in the SSH elements of Horizon 2020.

More information about the event, including the agenda (main sessions, key speakers, etc.) and the online registration facility, is available at the event website, www.achievingimpact2014.eu .
