QUALITOM Closing Workshop
The three-year Qualitom research project aims to help farmers produce healthy tomatoes at low cost and with respect for the environment in Europe's varying climatic conditions.
Tomatoes grown with open field processing systems are a major crop in the south of the European Union. The Qualitom project undertook field trials in 11 locations in 5 European countries to test current local practices compared to technical itineraries defined by a set of crop and environment-driven decision rules. The project team developed three computer tools: 'Protec' to manage weed, pest and disease control; 'Irrigere', an irrigation model to manage water supply to the tomatoes; and 'Fertiliz', a tool to manage fertilisation.
To close the research project, this one-day workshop is open to scientists, tomato growers and representatives from the processing industry.
There will be presentations, followed by discussions, which will focus on the following questions:
- What is the practical use of the information/tool/strategies?
- How does it work? (What are the parameters involved?);
- What are the benefits?
