Course: The Successful ERC Applicant, Denmark
A course for excellent researchers who wish to realise a ground-breaking research idea through a grant from the ERC. Furthermore, the course is relevant for research administrators and consultants who support applicants.
The course is targeting the following ERC grant schemes: Starting Grant, Consolidator Grant and Advanced Grant.
Course content:
Proposals for the ERC differ from the rest of Horizon 2020 as focus is solely on the excellent research idea and the profile of the principal investigator, including his/her CV and track-record. For Starting Grant and Consolidator Grant the evaluation process also includes a personal interview with the applicant.
The course will focus on:
- The ERC proposal requirements in relation to project idea, publication list and CV
- The evaluation criteria
- The experiences of ERC evaluators and successful ERC applicants
- The role of the host institution in relation to an ERC project.
Output:
The course will focus on ERC proposal writing and give you advice, tools and inspiration for your own grant proposal. Based on our experience we will address the challenges and the common mistakes of the proposal writing.
Drawing upon evaluators and successful applicants (of which two will be present on the day) we will offer you insights into the evaluation criteria and the factors that determine the fate of an ERC application. The course will give you a clear understanding of:
- How the concepts "ground-breaking research", "high risk/high gain" and "impact" are to be understood in the context of the ERC. That will enable you to address them in the right way in your own proposal.
- The different parts of the ERC proposal, what to focus on and how to prioritise the time spent on the proposal writing
- The formal ERC evaluation criteria and the informal expectations of the evaluators This will sharpen your ability to meet the eligibility criteria
- How best to prepare for the ERC interview
- The informal requirements that can make your proposal stand out.
Date and place:
The cource takes place 11 September 2014, 09:00 AM - 04:00 PM in Copenhagen, Denmark.
