Fourth eI4Africa workshop: Dar es Salaam, Tanzania (June 3, 2014)

The 4th eI4Africa Thematic Workshop "High Performance Computing for Public Good” is taking place on June 3rd, 2014, in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.

The workshop will be organised under the aegis of the European Commission (EC, DG CONNECT) and in co-location with the Technology Transfer Alliance (TTA) Conference 2014. It will take place at the Peacock City Center, in Dar es Salaam.

The main objectives of the meeting are to:
- Strengthen collaboration among African and European scientists;
- Raise awareness on the regional Research and Education Networks and their potential;
- Propose alternate means of conducting research and delivering services;
- Demonstrate the relevance of e-Infrastructures and advanced networks;
- Provide a forum for discussions and debates on recent development and perspectives in the field.

At this scope, the workshop will include the following sessions:
- A high-level opening session with the Minister of Communication, Science and Technology, as Guest of Honor and the participation of representatives from DIT, TERNET and COSTECH;
- Setting the scene, with presentations on: experience from South Africa – HPC for public good, ei4Africa Overview, Research and Education Networks (REN), Tanzania IdP/CA and Science Gateway;
- e-Infrastructures developments and applications under eI4Africa + survey findings;
- “Bird-of-a-Feather” (BoF) sessions: opportunities in the use of e-Infrastructure in various Government/Public Activities;
- Workshop conclusions and Vote of Thanks.

This thematic workshop is organised by DIT with the support of Sigma Orionis and all eI4Africa project partners.The workshop is co-hosted by the Tanzania Commission for Science and Technology (COSTECH) and the Tanzania Research and Education Network (TERNET).
