A clear analysis of what is required, both today and in the future, from the European research infrastructure will be the subject of a conference in Strasbourg on 18 to 20 September 2000.

Organised by the Improving Human Potential programme and coordinated by the French presidency of the Research Council along with the European Science Foundation, the conference will look at key questions facing European research infrastructure such as the many aspects of science policy related to research infrastructures, looking at key questions that will emerge in this area in the future and providing a clearer understanding of what the present Community actions in this area mean.

Areas which will be discussed at the conference include the following:

-The role of infrastructures in research;
- Infrastructure networking;
- International aspects;
- Towards a European policy for research infrastructure.

Participation in this conference will be by invitation following registration which is open from 15 March 2000.
