The first in a series of four environmental benchmarking conferences will take place on Wednesday 19 April 2000 at Manchester airport with the first aimed at Small and Medium Sized Enterprises (SMEs). The thrust behind the events is to provide benchmarking conferences in different sectors.

Following the SME conference, the chemical and financial and one further (yet to be decided) sector will be covered for environmental benchmarking. The aim of this first conference is to show how environmental benchmarking is not only a wise move in relation to the regulatory requirements made of SMEs and their clients, but also as a way of stimulating greater profitability.

The conferences forms part of the European Environmental Benchmarking Network (EEBN), a programme set up upon request of the European Commission's DG Enterprise.
