EPIC Completes its Singapore Events Series with the Webinar ‘Researching for the Future – Opportunities for ICT Research Collaboration with Singapore'

On Wednesday June 26th, 2019, the Horizon 2020-funded EPIC project held its final Singapore event – a webinar entitled ‘Researching for the Future: Opportunities for ICT research collaboration with Singapore’.
The purpose of this webinar was to provide information on collaboration and funding opportunities between the European Union and Singapore, in particular to support EU-based ICT researchers with an interest to collaborate with partners in the EPIC partner country. The EPIC team selected a webinar as the most effective setting for this, the project’s final event, because researchers from across Europe and Singapore were expected to take an interest in the discussion topic.
In addition to an introduction provided by Ashok Kumar Marath from EPIC partner organisation A*STAR I²R, the webinar featured presentations from two experts on collaboration opportunities between Singapore and the EU. First up was Dr Susanne Rentzow-Vasu, the regional representative for the EURAXESS ASEAN network. Her presentation was entitled ‘EURAXESS: Supporting Mobile Researchers’ and included an in-depth explanation of how the EURAXESS network functions, as well as a focus on the Marie Sklodowska-Curie Actions fellowships and the European Research Council grant schemes. The second speaker was Audry Maulana, an international consultant at the Sociedade Portuguesa de Inovacao, a consulting firm with experience working in Singapore’s public and private sectors, as well as in EU Horizon 2020 funded innovation projects. His presentation, entitled ‘Singapore: Market and Opportunities’ covered Singapore-EU trade relations and an overview of the market in Singapore including statistics, opportunities, incentives, key sectors and more. The presentations were followed by a question and answer session during which the audience could address queries directly to the two experts.
“International collaboration is crucial to scientific progress,” said Dr Rentzow-Vasu. “Joining forces with international collaborators allows researchers to share ideas, gain access to new knowledge and to find solutions to global problems. That is why EURAXESS ASEAN is dedicated to bringing researchers from ASEAN and the EU together.”

EPIC was initiated in 2017 and is aimed at improving cooperation in the area of information and communication technologies between Europe and the three partner countries Australia, New Zealand and Singapore. The project is funded by the European Union’s Horizon 2020 Research and Innovation programme (ICT) under Grant Agreement No. 687794.
