The aim of this colloquium is to provide the state of the art about significative progresses on matter's properties in an intermediate scale between the macroscopic scale, characterizing the matter at metric scale, and the microscopic scale, characterizing atoms and molecules. Mesoscopic physics deals with the properties of condensed matter appearing at an intermediate scale between classical physics and statistical physics on one hand and quantum physics on the other hand.

Mesoscopic chemistry deals in particular with nanomaterials and meso-crystals. Mesoscopic chemistry covers the synthesis and the study of the construction of materials having a size from 2nm to 1μm, the assembly of bidimensional or three-dimensional objects and the study of their properties.

In biology, the exploration of this new scale between micron and nanometer leads to a brand new understanding of numerous biological phenomena ... it is a true "mesoscopic biology" revealing new properties of living organisms belonging to this scale. (Dr. Antoine Triller) ...
