Unconventional ideas and new approaches, not yet fully explored, are encouraged. The 1993 programme of Conferences is sponsored by the European Science Foundation and by the Commission of the European Communities. Most of the Conferences have received funding, or are recommended for funding, from the specific programme of research and technological development in the field of human capital and mobility (1990-1994) under the Third Framework Programme.September-October Conferences include:- Electronic structure of solids. Surfaces, interfaces and localized defects (Thessaloniki, Greece, 18-23 September 1993); - Advanced quantum field theory and critical phenomena. Integrability, conformal invariance and topological field theories (Ascona, Switzerland, 19-24 September 1993).- Genetics and structures of animal viruses (Strasbourg, France, 22-27 October 1993);- Molecular biology of cellular interactions. Adhesion molecules (San Feliu de Guixols, Spain, 23-28 October 1993);The Conferences are open to scientists from all over the world. Attendance is limited to about 100, including speakers and those selected by the Chair from among the applicants.
