The Centre for Renewable Energy Sources (CRES) is organising a seminar on 'renewable energy sources (RES) - powered desalination plants in the Mediterranean region' on 1 and 2 September 2000 in Limassol, Cyprus.

The event is organized within the framework of an INCO-DC project 'Mediterranean cooperation for water desalination policies in the perspective of a sustainable development', (MED-CO-DESAL), coordinated by the National Technical University of Athens and in collaboration with UNESCO, SIDEF and partners from Cyprus, Egypt, Israel, Palestinian Authorities and Lebanon.

The objectives of this seminar include:

- the promotion and dissemination of the results, findings and case studies of the MEDCODESAL project;
- highlighting the importance of GIS-tools in the analysis of regional water problem and the support of water management decisions and policies;
- the presentation of the international state-of-the-art of the existing desalination policies and technologies.

The seminar aims to:

- assist the decision makers in water supply sector to implement water management policies;
- promote the most efficient and economic technologies in the sector;
- increase the production of desalinated water using renewable energy technology applications;
- strengthen the scientific and technical cooperation between EU and Third Mediterranean Countries.

The event addresses decision makers, water utilities, industrial, trade and professional associations, equipment manufacturers and potential investors.
