The Italian National Inter-university consortium 'Chemistry for the environment' is organising the fourth summer school on green chemistry funded within the European Commission's Human Potential programme of the Fifth Framework programme. It will be held in Venice from 10-16 September 2001. Scholarship applications from young researchers, PhD students, and post-docs from European countries are encouraged. Participants up to 35 years old are welcome.

The lectures will be given by a dozen internationally known top level instructors, who are acknowledged for their scientific merit and for innovative contributions made to research in this field.

The following topics will be covered:

- alternative solvents;
- alternative feedstocks;
- products; catalysis;
- reactions

The summer school will be held in the Istituto Canossiano, in the centre of Venice, where all the participants will be accommodated and attend lessons.

The third summer school on green chemistry, was held in Venice from 4 to 10 September 2000, under the patronage of the Italian Foreign Ministry and of the Ministry for University and Scientific Research. This year concluded the first three years series, funded by the European Commission's TMR Programme (Training and Mobility of Researchers).
