Europe's research Commissioner, Philippe Busquin, will join the French Minister for Health, Bernard Kouchner, in Paris on 21 May to promote European cooperation in the field of biomedical research. Also attending will be Antoine Durrleman, Director-General of the Assistance publique-hôpitaux de Paris.

They, along with the European press, will be presented with the results and perspectives of four research projects highlighting successful work in:

- establishing an umbilical cord blood bank and using it for transplants in children;
- comparing healthcare given to highly premature babies in several European countries;
- assessing and improving intensive care units through an EU-wide comparative study and;
- improving the understanding and treatment of several neurological disorders.

In addition, a case study will be presented (followed by a discussion) on European mobility and co-operation.
