5 October 2001 - 5 October 2001

The third regional information society forum will discuss eDevelopment in south east Europe in Sofia, Bulgaria on 5 and 6 October.

The event will be supported by the European Commission's IST (information society technologies) programme and the Bulgarian Council on information society, and is being organised by a number of organisations and institutes from Bulgaria, Cyprus, Israel and Romania.

E-Development, the role of information and communication technologies (ICT) in socio-economic development, is the theme of the forum. Areas for discussion will include policy and regulatory framework, ICT's impact on economic growth, employment and social cohesion, the implications for EU enlargement and the risk of exclusion for those countries lagging behind.

Participants will also look at ways of promoting 'digital opportunities' in the region through policy reforms, regional cooperation and cross border initiatives in the context of eEurope+.

A technology brokerage and business partnership event will also be organised parallel to the forum, offering networking opportunities for companies throughout south east Europe. For further information, please consult the following web address: http://www.arc.online.bg(opens in new window)
