The fourth annual workshop on polymer materials, to be held in Paris on 13 and 14 September will include a plenary session on the European research area (ERA), with contributions from Salvador Cervera March from the European Commission's Research DG and Hans-Georg Braun from the Institute of polymer research in Dresden, Germany.

The session will also cover the Commission's proposals for the Sixth Framework programme (FP6) and the future goals of those working with polymers in nanotechnology.

The event is being organised by the targeted research action (TRA) network 'polymer materials', which brings together relevant EU funded research projects from the Brite-Euram and CRAFT programmes. The network aims to provide a European forum for the development, dissemination and exchange of scientific and technological knowledge, and of ideas relating to all aspects of production and use of polymer materials. It also seeks to create more of a synergy and to accelerate the dissemination and exploitation of research results to meet the need of industry and society for sustainable development, whilst informing EU research programme planners of future needs and priorities.

The network currently comprises of 29 EU funded research projects and around 150 research institutions, SMEs (small and medium sized enterprises) and large corporations.

The workshop will also include a session on the Commission's Sixth environmental action programme (6EAP), recent research results and their exploitation, a brainstorming session and technical presentations. insuffisFor further information, please consult the following web address: http://www1.vr.nl/tra-pm.org/index1.htm(opens in new window)
