The Commission of the European Communities (DG III) announces the European Information Technology Conference 1994, which takes place at the Palais des Congres in Brussels on 6-8 June 1994 (not on 13-15 June as announced in the EITC'94 provisional agenda of September 1993)

The year 1994 will mark the completion of ten years of Community research and technological development in information technology (IT) within the ESPRIT programme. At the same time, Community RTD in IT enters a new phase in 1994 with the commencement of the Fourth Framework Programme. For these reasons, the Commission has decided to reshape the annual ESPRIT Conference and to schedule it to take the greatest advantage of the possibilities of public dialogue on the future implementation of the Community's Information Technology programme.

The Conference, "IT and the Transformation of Enterprise", promises to play a major role in determining the future aims and objectives of RTD in information technology.

An opening address will be given by M. Bangemann, Vice-President of the European Commission. On the first day of the Conference, five parallel sessions will examine technological issues concerning the IT programme. In addition, a number of presentations and other meetings during the three-day event focus on:

- IT and Enterprise Efficiency;
- Information Infrastructure and New Markets;
- Round table on IT and the Transformation of Enterprise.

The EITC '94 Exhibition will take place at the same time as the Conference, and is expected to attract great interest from researchers and scientists, as well as a range of both public- and private-sector industries, including SMEs. It will also, as in the case of past ESPRIT Exhibitions, attract financial organizations, industrial and research bodies (both from Europe and worldwide), decision makers, the media, and the general public.
