Subjects include:- Trends in surface water analysis (Lisbon, 22-25 January 1994): Discussions will be organized in round tables dealing with trends in (i) sampling, (ii) storage, (iii) final detection techniques, (iv) water analysis and EC regulations. Two separate round-table sessions will follow these, focusing on inorganic elements and organic compounds, respectively. The participants will be invited to make an active contribution to the discussions, which will be chaired by a selected person. The minutes of the discussions will be used to prepare a paper summarizing the participants' views on the different topics.- Trends in speciation analysis (Rome, 19-22 February 1994): Round tables will deal with different topics on trends in (i) sampling and storage, (ii) extraction, (iii) derivatization, (iv) separation and (v) hyphenated techniques. Participants will take an active part in the discussions and a paper will be prepared to summarize their views. The conclusions of the Rome workshop will be published in "Applied Oganometallic Chemistry" (Organometallic speciation) and in "Frenesius Journal of Analytical Chemistry" (Inorganic speciation).- Quality assurance of sampling and sample pre-treatment of sediments and soils (Barcelona, 7-10 May 1994): Discussions will be organized in round-tables dealing with (i) sampling techniques, (ii) drying techniques, (iii) sample pre-treatment, (iv) sample storage related to soil and sediment analysis. Three round-table sessions will follow these themes focusing on inorganic constituents, organic compounds and veterinary drugs. Plenary lectures by invited speakers will also be given. The active contribution of the participants in the round-table discussions will be used in the preparation of a paper summarizing the views expressed on the different topics. Conclusions of the workshop will be published in the journal "Quimica analitica".Inquiries concerning these workshops, or other aspects of the programme, should be addressed to:Commission of the European CommunitiesDG XII/C-5Measurements and Testing ProgrammeAttn.
