The European telecommunications standards institute (ETSI), together with the European Commission's Enterprise DG, is organising an international workshop on the testing, certification and market acceptance of new applications for the next generation Internet protocol IP version 6 (IPv6), to take place on 22 September in Brussels.

This 'plugtest' event is part of the eEurope standards Action Plan. The keynote address will be given by Fabio Colasanti, Director General of the Information Society DG.

The Internet's underlying protocol, IPv4, is now nearly 20 years old and needs upgrading, not least to remedy a shortage of IP addresses, which are needed by any new machine added to the net. IPv6 is expected gradually to replace IPv4, and during the transition, interoperability events are being held regularly, to test and showcase new applications.For further information, please consult the following web address:
