International Conference on the Decommissioning of Nuclear Installations, 1994
The aim of this conference is to present the results achieved on completion of the specific programme of RTD (Euratom) in the field of decommissioning of nuclear installations, 1989-1993, and to provide an opportunity for discussions between experts and scientists from within and outside the European Union on the issues and options for future research. The event will also permit the strengthening of the necessary dialogue between decommissioning experts, owners of nuclear installations and the authorities involved.
The five-day conference will consist of an introductory session, technical meetings and a final panel session. Topics will include:
- Long-term integrity of buildings and systems;
- Decontamination for decommissioning purposes;
- Dismantling techniques;
- Treatment of specific waste materials;
- Remote-controlled manipulators;
- Estimation of radioactive waste quantities;
- Identification of guiding principles;
- Testing of new techniques under real conditions, including the four pilot dismantling projects (Windscale WAGR, Grundremmingen KRB-A, Mol BR3, La Hague AT1).
Invited papers will be presented by scientists involved in the programme through contracts, members of the Commission's scientific staff and guest experts. A Conference Programme Committee of leading European experts will assist in the selection of papers and the preparation of panels.
