Conference: Renewable energy sources in Europe
The event is supported by the European Commission (Directorates-General XII, XIII and XVII) and by the European Parliament and the Spanish Ministry for Industry and Energy. It will be attended by political figures and senior officials representing the Spanish Government, the Commission and the European Parliament.
The present situation and perspectives with regard to renewable energy sources will be analysed at the Conference, which will take into consideration the whole spectrum of activities, from research to commercial and industrial applications.
It is also intended to study the removal of limitations and barriers that hinder the market penetration of renewable energy sources, within the energy, environmental, political, social and economic context.
The main aim of the Conference is to define an Action Plan for Renewable Energy Sources in Europe, to be used as a reference for regional, national or European authorities, or any other interested institutions.
At present, in contrast to the USA or Japan, there is no document available that serves as a European reference guide for renewable energy sources, acknowledged at the highest political and institutional levels. Such a Plan will provide an essential framework to permit renewable energy resources, which have already reached a technologically and commercially mature stage, to make a significant contribution, in the short term, to European energy production.
