Report on JOULE seminar on energy research and technological development

A seminar entitled "European Strategy on Energy Research and Technological Development" took place in Venice on 18-20 November 1993. The meeting covered the topics of energy, environment and related economic factors. A summary report is now available.
The central aim of the seminar was to help formulate the strategy for RTD to be undertaken within the Fourth Framework Programme of research and technological development (1990-1994).
Some 100 specialists from different energy fields participated. Six working groups examined questions related to: Nuclear fusion; nuclear fission; renewable energies; energy management; fossil fuels; energy and transport.
A summary of the expert contributions and the conclusions of the working groups was prepared by the seminar's steering committee. This document is expected to provide useful guidance during the procedures leading up to the finalization of the energy RTD activities of the Fourth Framework Programme.
